As the world eagerly awaits Royal Baby number two, Us Weekly has taken a peek inside London’s exclusive Lindo Wing suite at Paddington’s St. Mary’s hospital, where Kate Middleton and Prince William will welcome their second child any day now!
Following in the footsteps of her mother-in-law Princess Diana, the Duchess of Cambridge, 33, will give birth for the second time in same luxurious private wing of the world class London hospital where she and Prince William, 32, welcomed Prince George nearly two years ago, and where Prince William and Prince Harry were born themselves.
With a medical team led by Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston, the Duchess will welcome her new baby in the world-famous private hospital wing, which was opened by the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother in 1937.
British mom of two, Georgie McGrath, also gave birth to her children in the Lindo Wing’s amazing facilities, and she tells Us that the hotel-like amenities (we’re talking wine lists and daily newspapers!) make it worth every cent of the $9,650 (£6,570) an overnight stay costs (though, as this is their second stay, the royal couple will receive a 10 percent “loyalty discount”!).
“When you arrive, you get given your own room, the floors are carpeted, [there are] fitted cupboards, a TV screen, your own bathroom, a little fridge, curtains, nice duvets on the bed,” McGrath says of the plush environment. “A menu comes to you every day, and it’s not your normal run of the mill sort of menu, it’s a good menu, yummy food,” she adds.
“It’s a very nice place to have a baby. It’s very comfortable, but yet you’ve got the 100 percent medical attention if you need it, you have St. Mary’s right there, literally across the road,” she continues.
One thing that’s important when you’re giving birth to a royal baby is security, and McGrath reveals that aspect of the suite is second to none.
“It’s very safe, very safe indeed,” she says. “On the door is the security guard and you can’t get in, unless you were signed in etc.”
But while it’s great to have the best doctors in the world onsite, and some luxurious surroundings to give birth in (the hospital boasts of having hotel-like services to help a family “settle in and feel at home”), it’s the Lindo Suite’s attention to detail and romance that makes his hospital truly special.
“Once you’ve had your baby they will take the baby for the night and go put him in the nursery and you can have a full-on sort of four-course meal, with champagne and candles and everything like that,” McGrath reveals. “I don’t think I’d go anywhere else after having [my babies] there. It was a joy, a pleasure. Life was very, very easy.”
