Righting his wrongs. Zac Efron took to Twitter on Tuesday, January 19, to apologize for a controversial Martin Luther King Jr. tweet that caused fans to revolt.
“I have nothing but the greatest admiration & respect for MLK,” the Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising star, 28, tweeted. “My last post was insensitive & I apologize to anyone who I offended. So sorry.”
Efron’s original tweet was posted on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It remained up for several hours before he deleted it on Tuesday afternoon.
“I’m grateful for a couple things today: Martin Luther King Jr & 10 million followers on IG,” the tweet in question read.
After he posted it, several followers immediately replied with negative comments about Efron, telling him his account should be deleted.
“@ZacEfron This is one of the most offensive/diminishing/disrespectful things anyone has said in relation to MLK today. Get over yourself,” one commenter wrote.
In happier news for the hunky actor, the first trailer for his upcoming comedy sequel was also released on Tuesday. It features him teaming up with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne to take down a sorority headed up by Chloë Grace Moretz.
