Kanye West Responds to Taylor Swift’s Grammys Diss: ‘I Want the Best for That Person’

A contemplative, calmer Kanye. The Life of Pablo rapper kept his cool on Wednesday, February 17, when he was asked about his reaction to Taylor Swift’s recent Grammys diss while boarding a flight out of Los Angeles International Airport.

Asked by reporters and camera people if he thought the 26-year-old “Out of the Woods” singer should show him more respect, West responded with a flat-out “no.”

“It’s like, I want the best for that person, but there’s people going through real issues out here,” the 38-year-old father of two said. “There’s people out of work. There’s people in debt that can’t make it out of the debt. There’s people that’s in debt that don’t have a shoe. There’s people that are in debt that don’t have a hit album out also — you know what I’m saying? … I don’t think people care about me or her in that way. People care about their families, their kids. If you like my music, listen to it. If you like her music, listen to it.”

At the 58th Annual Grammys on Monday night, Swift took a swipe at West during her acceptance speech following the release of his new track “Famous,” in which the rapper both suggested they’ll have sex one day and claimed he was responsible for Swift’s fame.

“I want to say to all the young women out there — there are going to be people along the way who are going to try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” Swift said. “But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be greatest feeling in the world.”

The ongoing back-and-forth didn’t end there. On Thursday, February 17, backstage audio from West’s recent guest appearance on Saturday Night Live (the night before the Grammys) was leaked online, and in the clip, West calls Swift a “fake-ass.”

“Look at that s–t, they took my f–kin’ stage off SNL without asking me,” he said in the snippet. “Now I’m bummed. That and Taylor Swift. Fake ass. Now we’re gonna do this. We’re breaking the motherf–king Internet.”
