Christie Brinkley has had her fair share of divorces (four) in the public eye, which is why she’s “leery” of discussing her current relationship with boyfriend John Mellencamp. During an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM on Monday, Nov. 9, the supermodel, 61, said she doesn’t want to “jinx” her romance with the 61-year-old rocker.
“I’ll tell you what I’m leery of, I’m leery of discussing my relationship because I don’t want to jinx it,” Brinkley said when asked point-blank if she’ll marry Mellencamp. “I feel like I was so dragged through the press, [I don’t want that again].”
Brinkley, who first stepped out with Mellencamp in September, went through a messy and bitter divorce from her fourth husband, Peter Cook, in 2008. In 2012, the blonde broke down during a Today show interview, explaining that her ex tried to sabotage her character and that “every time I have any joy or any kind of success in anything, he has to try to destroy it.”
For now, her relationship with Mellencamp, is budding. But Brinkely does want the musician to quit one bad habit.
“He has to [stop smoking],” she agreed with longtime friend Stern. “He has to stop smoking and the amazing thing about the body is it will heal…even after all those years of abuse.”
Prior to marrying Cook, Brinkely was married to another music legend, Billy Joel (from 1985 to 1994), plus real estate developer Richard Taubman (1994 to 1995), and artist Francois Allaux (1973 to 1981).
