In his professional opinion, Dr. Phil thinks Kanye West is just plain “stupid!”
James Corden had the 65-year-old TV psychologist as a guest on his show on Monday, February 22, and took the opportunity to inquire about his opinion on West.
The 38-year-old rapper has been unusually prolific on Twitter in recent weeks, declaring himself to be $53 million in debt and then begging financiers like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to bail him out. He also was caught having a backstage rant during an appearance on Saturday Night Live, where he laid into Taylor Swift just days after dissing her on his new album release.
But while Corden was evidently expecting some understanding words of wisdom relating to the rapper’s confused mental state from his high-profile TV doctor, plain-talking Dr. Phil was pretty sure there was only one diagnosis: stupidity!
“You can’t be that wrong, that many times in a row, unless you’re working at it,” Phil responded.
“You think he’s trying to cause a stir?” asked Corden, confused.
“We’re talking about it, aren’t we? I mean he just gets up, says something and we’re here talking about it.”
Another of Corden’s guests, Shad Moss, aka Bow Wow, who knows West, was more forgiving in his analysis.
“He’s just an artist who’s overly passionate about what he does,” the rapper replied.
But Dr. Phil was having none of it! “Everybody thinks stuff sometimes, you’ll think stuff that’s really stupid, but we’re in a society now when people think you need to have an audience for everything. We’re so narcissistic,” he added.
“Now you say something incredibly stupid and they’re reading it in China in seconds. You can be stupid and get away with it,” he concluded.
