‘Saturday Night Live’ Mocks Hillary Clinton on an NYC Subway, Russell Crowe Bombs as Host

Hillary Clinton stole the show on Saturday Night Live on Saturday, April 9. Not that it was too difficult, given that show host Russell Crowe was featured in a paltry four sketches, aside from his opening monologue.

Clinton, played by Kate McKinnon, kicked off the night with a cold open lampooning the Democratic presidential hopeful’s recent visit to New York City and her recent losing streak.

“Hello, America. It’s true, I have not been winning as of late,” McKinnon as Clinton said as she settled back onto a flower-print sofa. “In fact, I have not won a state in almost three weeks — because that was the plan. I did not want to win those and so I didn’t. It doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m not rattled. Like the old adage says, you win some, you [makes sound].”

Since the faux Clinton couldn’t quite get the word “lose” out of her mouth, she opted instead to talk about her visit to New York, where she wore a New York Yankees cap (that doubled as a Mets cap), ate a hot dog (with fake munching noises) and even talked about the “new hot Broadway show that has NYC abuzz” — Chicago.

The fake candidate then attempted to appeal to New Yorkers, explaining how she was just like them: “I never sleep, I’m in a hurry to get to work and when I’m running, I really hate it when a slow, old Jew gets in my way.”

McKinnon as Clinton also managed to get in a subtle jab at fellow candidate Bernie Sanders, as well as Susan Sarandon, who earlier this month said that Donald Trump would be more capable in office than her.

Crowe, meanwhile, was slightly off-mark the entire night, using two different accents — Russian and German — that confused the audience, and acknowledging his own self-professed lack of comedic timing in the opening monologue.
