A former Deadliest Catch producer, Joe McMahon, was shot and killed on Friday, July 24, outside of his Pasadena, Calif., home. He was 25.

According to local ABC affiliate KABC, McMahon was a former associate producer for the popular Discovery Channel series. Per IMDb, he worked on the Deadliest Catch in 2013 on nine episodes.

"We are heartsick about this tragedy," the network told Us Weekly in a statement on Friday. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all that knew and worked with him."

McMahon, who was identified by his family members on Friday, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police received a call early Friday morning about possible shots fired in the Chapman Woods neighborhood. When authorities arrived on the scene, police found a young man "suffering from multiple gunshot wounds." The 25-year-old was pronounced dead, and his body was found one driveway away from his actual home.

The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, but investigators told ABC 7 that McMahon had left his home shortly before the incident took place. Witnesses recalled the sounds of shots and a car speeding away from the crime scene.

Authorities told ABC 7 that they did not believe drugs were involved, nor was there any indication that McMahon was tied to gangs.
