Ralph Lauren Steps Down as CEO of His Fashion Company

Ralph Lauren Steps Down as CEO
Ralph Lauren announced that he will be stepping down as CEO from his fashion empire on Sept. 29.

It’s the end of an era.

After nearly 50 years at the helm, Ralph Lauren announced on Tuesday, Sept. 29, that he will step down as CEO of his eponymous fashion label, according to WWD. The iconic American designer, 75, will remain executive chairman and chief creative officer. Stefan Larsson will take Lauren’s place as chief executive officer in November.

However, his dismount from his lines, including Polo and Ralph Lauren Home, does not point to an inevitable retirement anytime soon. “This is important to say: There is no toe in the water. I love what I’m doing, I love the company…I won’t be coming two days a week,” he told WWD.

Lauren’s classic designs have been a go-to for celebs such as Katie Holmes, Naomi Watts, and, in one of the most memorable red carpet debuts, Lupita Nyong’o. The style darling (and 12 Years a Slave actress) stunned in the red caped Ralph Lauren dress at the 2014 Golden Globes. “We got goose bumps,” Nyong’o’s stylist, Micaela Erlanger, said of the first fitting of the dress. “I told her, ‘This is going to be a game-changer.’ And it was.”
