David Bowie’s Ex Angie Bowie Told of Former Husband’s Death on Set of Celebrity Big Brother: Is She Staying on the Show?

David Bowie‘s ex-wife, Angie Bowie, has been given the devastating news of her former husband’s passing while on the set of Celebrity Big BrotherA rep for the reality show confirmed the news to Us Weekly on Monday, January 11. 

“Following the very sad news of David Bowie’s death, we can now confirm that Angie Bowie has been informed off camera by her representatives,” the Celebrity Big Brother rep tells Us. “She has taken the decision to continue in the program.”

According to the rep, it was Angie’s choice to stay on the series. (She has been sequestered from the outside world as cameras document the happenings within the house.) “The decision to remain in the House is entirely her choice, and she has been given the option to leave at any time if she changes her mind,” the rep tells Us. “Appropriate support will be available to Angie at any time if needed.”

Angie, who married the “Starman” singer in 1970, and who is currently a contestant on the British reality television show, was told of his passing in an off-camera moment. 

“Following the very sad news of David Bowie’s death this morning, we can confirm that Angie Bowie has been informed [of the news] off camera,” a rep for Channel 5 first revealed to Us early Monday.

Contestants on the show have no other access to the outside world, and are banned from using telephones while inside the Big Brother household.

Angie, an American former model, went into the house on Tuesday, January 5. It is unknown whether she will opt to remain in the show following the tragic news.

In an episode of the reality show, she described her split from the legendary music maker, adding that they haven’t seen each other in 40 years.

“I go to great lengths to avoid him,” she admitted. “It was terrible when we broke up, it was awful,” she added, of their split in 1980.

Angie, 66, was just 19 when she met David. She appeared as herself in the 1973 Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars film, and was the inspiration behind Bowie’s hit songs “The Prettiest Star,” “Golden Years” and “Cracked Actor.”

Their son, Duncan Jones, who confirmed the news of his father’s death on Sunday, January 10, is also estranged from Angie.
