The Hair Color You Need to Try Now Is Named After Your Favorite Snack

Chocolate Chip Cookie Hair

Looking for a new hair color to try out in 2016? Jen Atkin has you covered! On the celeb hairstylist's website, ManeAddicts.com, the genius behind the Kardashians' locks highlights the shade of the moment as "chocolate chip cookie."

Colorist Ryan Pearl of the Cutler Salon in NYC coined the "chocolate chip" effect as a multi-dimensional honey hue that looks natural on everyone — especially brunettes.

"The color I've created is one that works best on someone, like the model pictured, with a darker base color," Pearl says. And the added bonus? "When this color begins to grow out, it will still look polished."

Specifically, Pearl explains, the technique calls for "painting ribbon-like pieces that cascade over her face while I 'stagger' the height of the painted pieces (sections of hair) on the sides and back of her head. Then I paint a section of hair and blend in the ends of another section of hair as a way to accentuate POP."

As for the fun name, Pearl believes that snacks are the ultimate explainer. "I often use food terms as a way to 'paint a picture' and make it much easier for a client to understand what I've done," he shares. "For instance, these tones I may call 'chocolate chip cookie' because it's a much more interesting, fun, and relatable way to name a color than simply referring to it as 'warm or cold.'"
