Jennifer Aniston: ‘I Bow My Head in Slight Shame’ Over Some of My Movies

They can’t all be winners. Jennifer Aniston isn’t thrilled with some of the movies she has worked on in the past — and she’s not afraid to admit it. The Friends alum opened up about her long career and how she’s learned to say “no” in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

“There was a time when I worked and worked and worked. I loved it,” Aniston, 47, said. “I’m a bit of a people pleaser. I’ve got to stop. Some of the movies I’ve made, I bow my head in slight shame over.”

The Mother’s Day actress has focused mainly on film since wrapping Friends in 2004. Her filmography includes comedies such as The Break-Up, He’s Just Not That Into You and Horrible Bosses. In 2014, however, she took on a more dramatic role in Cake, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe.

“I can do other things. I feel a sense of freedom that I hadn’t necessarily felt before,” Aniston told the mag. “Also, you have to start taking chances in an industry that’s very insecure about taking chances on people. People forget who actors are. They say, ‘You’re too known to play that part. You can’t disappear.’ And we’re like, ‘Give us a chance. We’ll disappear.'”

Work isn’t everything for the star, though. These days, Aniston doesn’t mind just relaxing at home with her husband, Justin Theroux. (Us Weekly exclusively revealed in August 2015 that the pair married at their posh L.A. home.)

“I really have to love something to be leaving my home, my dogs, my husband. The older you get, the more you realize that,” Aniston explained. “Married life is so normal and fun and not much different. We felt married for so long.” Of Theroux’s Leftovers success, she added: “As they say in the business, ‘He’s on fire.’ I’m so proud of him.”

The Mean Moms star also enjoys laughing with her longtime love — which happens often. “Man, I think everyone’s so freakin’ politically correct lately. It’s becoming a real drag. I like making jokes,” she said. “I’m lucky because Justin is the funniest person I’ve met, and we make each other laugh. Laughter is one of the great keys to staying youthful.”

And youthful she is. Aniston revealed that she feels better about herself now more than ever before. “Not only do you feel better in your body physically, but you’re mentally better. Because, say, in your 20s, you didn’t know s–t. For me, in my 30s I was just trying to figure it all out. Then when you hit 40, you’re like, ‘Oh, OK. I got this,'” she said.

“There are women who’ve hit 50 who are stunners, like shocking. We just take better care of ourselves,” she continued. “I had somebody say to me, ‘Women these days in their 40s look pretty good!’ And this was a much older person. I mean, who says that?”
