Looks like someone’s in a celebratory mood. Donald Trump took to social media on Thursday, May 5, to wish his followers a happy Cinco de Mayo in a way only the presumptive GOP presidential nominee can: by promoting his own goods.
“Happy Cinco de Mayo!” Trump, 69, wrote on Twitter and Facebook. “The best taco bowls are made in Trump Tower Grill. I love Hispanics!”
Last June, the controversial mogul made headlines after he made several racist remarks about immigrants from Mexico, calling them “rapists” and accusing them of bringing drugs and crime to the United States.
He later refused to apologize for his words, telling Us, “Everything that I said is correct. People are flowing through the borders and we have no idea who they are, there they’re coming from. They’re not only coming from Mexico, they’re coming from all over South America and the world.”
In the accompanying photo, the Republican presidential candidate flashed a thumbs-up with one hand, as he dug into a large taco bowl with the other. His lunchtime treat rests on top of two white porcelain plates and a pile of newspapers.
The only problem is that the Trump Tower Grill in Midtown Manhattan doesn’t actually have that menu item listed. (Intrepid reporter Andrew Kaczynski called to verify.)
“Just got off phone with Trump Grill, says they don’t serve taco bowls,” the BuzzFeed editor tweeted. “It’s not on the menu online.”
A little more digging revealed that the Trump property that did carry the aforementioned taco bowl was actually the Trump Cafe (also located in the Trump Tower), where the item is listed as a “taco fiesta!”
The taco bowl and the accompanying Cinco de Mayo–themed entrees are served for one day only.
Twitter immediately reacted to Trump’s festive photo.

@JasonPStarling @realDonaldTrump any time a person has to say “I love [insert ethnic group here]” then they most likely do not.

Earlier in the week, Trump was deemed the presumptive Republican nominee in the 2016 election after both Ted Cruz and John Kasich dropped out of the race.
