Another rock legend gone before his time. On Sunday, June 28, Yes keyboardist Geoff Downes took to Twitter to announce the death of the group's founding member and bassist, Chris Squire, at age 67.
"Utterly devastated beyond words to have to report the sad news of the passing of my dear friend, bandmate and inspiration Chris Squire. #yes," Downes wrote.
Squire had been battling leukemia, and the band confirmed the passing on its official Facebook page.
"It's with the heaviest of hearts and unbearable sadness that we must inform you of the passing of our dear friend and Yes co-founder, Chris Squire," the statement read. "Chris peacefully passed away last night in Phoenix Arizona, in the arms of his loving wife Scotty."
Yes was founded in 1968 by Squire and singer Jon Anderson. The group won a Grammy in 1985 for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
Squire is survived by his wife, Scotty, and his children Carmen, Chandrika, Camille, Cameron, and Xilan.
