Giving out detentions just isn’t enough. According to Fox 11 News, parents in Shawano, Wisconsin, could face a fine of up to $366 if their child bullies another kid. A second offense — within a one-year time frame — will cost them $681.

Shawano Police Chief Mark Kohl explained to NBC26 that he will work with the local school district to identify bullies and notify parents — who will then be given 90 days to intervene. If the harassment continues, they will be forced to open their wallets.

“It creates an avenue for us to work with parents to help find solutions,” Kohl told NBC26. “At this point there’s no initial complaints or concerns out there, we’re just being proactive in working with the community to address this.”

The ordinance — which was passed on April 26 — also condemns cyberbullying within Shawano city limits, according to NBC26.

“This isn’t generated towards the kids being kids, some playground banter,” Kohl said in an interview with Fox 11. “This is the person that is meticulously using social media or saying things that are vulgar in an attempt to hurt, discredit and really demean a person.”

The City Council passed the ordinance on April 26, just days after a male student opened fire at the Antigo High School prom 45 miles away. USA Today reported he had been bullied over hygiene.
