The late model’s ex, who met Smith at the annual Barnstable Brown Gala in 2004, told Us that it’s the only night of the year he goes out, and that little Dannielynn is dying for him to bring a date one year.

“When I was leaving, Danni said, ‘Would you do me a favor at the party?’ And I said, ‘What?’ And she said, ‘Would you get yourself a date?’ I looked at her and started laughing and she said, ‘No, really, I’m serious. Get a date,’” Larry recalls to Us, adding that his daughter made sure to check in with him once he arrived at the charitable bash.

“I pulled up to the party and she was texting me, ‘Are you there yet? Did you get a date yet?’ I was like, ‘I just got here, give me a few minutes!’ So it’s funny she’s kind of at the point now where she’s kind of encouraging that,” Larry adds.

“She’s trying her best,” Larry says. “And it’s sweet.”

Dannielynn’s dad has raised his daughter alone since Smith’s death in February 2007. The Playboy model, whose real name was Vickie Lynn Hogan, died at the age of 39 from a drug overdose. Smith gave birth to her mini-me on September 7, 2006, and just three days later, her 20-year-old son, Daniel, died of an accidental overdose. The reality TV personality died five months later.

Larry and Dannielynn live in Kentucky and attend the Kentucky Derby every year. But aside from the annual horse race, they keep a low profile.

“I never go anywhere! I literally drop her off and pick her up every day at school,” Larry tells Us. “I make the lunches. I do everything. I’m not bragging about that; it just takes up so much of my time and by the time I’m done, I’m tired!”
