Mama approves! Beyoncé celebrated the release of her HBO short film Lemonade and her album of the same name with her mom, Tina Knowles, on Sunday, April 24.
“My baby with a jar of lemonade we just had a lemonade toast!!!” Tina, 62, captioned a photo via Instagram, without revealing their faces.
In a second pic, the women clinked their mason jars. “Toast to lemonade B worked so hard on this project day and night!” she added. “It was soo important to her to offer something that would bring about healing and hope to the universe! No matter what you’ve gone thru in life you can always come out on the other side!”
Queen Bey, 34, didn’t hold back on her sixth studio album, which dropped on Jay Z’s music service, Tidal, on Saturday. (Lemonade is now available on iTunes and Amazon too.) The new tracks cover a variety of topics, from cheating, female empowerment and black oppression. Her tune “Sorry,” which calls out a mistress named Becky, has made the most buzz. Fashion designer Rachel Roy seemingly took ownership of the name and quickly received backlash from Bey’s dedicated fans.
Beyoncé chose the name Lemonade for a very special reason. On her HBO special, the superstar shared footage of Jay Z’s grandmother Hattie giving a speech at her 90th birthday party. She tells the crowd: “I was served lemons, but I made lemonade.”
