Joey Feek’s Daughter Speaks, Says ‘Mama’ for the First Time

Joy Feek

Baby’s first word! In the midst of Joey Feek’s brave battle with cancer comes a milestone moment. The ailing country singer’s husband, Rory, shared a sweet video on Instagram showing their daughter, Indiana, 2, speaking for the first time on Sunday, February 21.

In the video, Rory, 49, asks his little girl to repeat after him — prompting her first to say “mama” and then “dada,” which she handles with no problem.

“’Look papa, no hands’!!! I took Indy to the grocery store this afternoon and by the time we got home she was saying sounds back to me without using sign language,” the proud dad captioned the Instagram.

For Indiana, who was born with Down syndrome, this is a particularly significant feat. "Although that news came at first as a surprise to us, Joey and I wouldn’t have changed a thing,” Rory explained in a detailed blog post last year. "We trusted that God would give us the baby He wanted us to have… and He has. Out of all the parents in the world, He has chosen us to care for and raise this special gift."

After celebrating her second birthday on February 17, Indiana’s achievement certainly makes her parents’ “week to remember” all the more special.

As Us Weekly previously reported, Joey, 40, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014 and elected to enter hospice care last November.
