Ah, the ol' spoiler-alert-to-get-out-of-a-ticket trick. Kit Harington sat down with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on Friday, May 13, and admitted that he once told a cop about his fate on Game of Thrones in order to get out of a ticket.

The 29-year-old English actor started off by saying that he was given strict instructions not to tell anyone about whether or not he died during last season’s massive cliffhanger — and he mostly did, with one exception.

“When the writers told me, they said, ‘You can’t tell anyone — you can’t tell your mom, your dad, your brother, your friends,” he recalled. “I told my mom and dad right away — that’s my mom and dad!”

Harington also told his girlfriend, Game of Thrones alum Rose Leslie.

And as for the cop, he said, he had a good reason.

“I was driving to my parents’ house and driving too fast and this policeman pulls me over and he said, ‘There’s two ways we can do this: You can either follow me back to the police station and I book you in, or you can tell me whether you live on the next season.’”

The actor admitted that he thought the policeman was kidding, and laughed until he realized the cop was staring right back at him with a stone-cold expression.
