Beyoncé completely nailed her 2016 Met Gala look. There was just one thing missing when she hit the red carpet on Monday, May 2, in New York — her husband, Jay Z. Although fashion’s biggest night comes on the heels of Bey’s much talked-about visual album, Lemonade, sources tell Us Weekly that the rapper’s absence is no biggie — he’s simply just been there, done that.
“He’s done it before,” the insider explains to Us. “There’s just no big reason for him to go.”
The rapper accompanied his wife to last year’s bash and most memorably in 2014. As Beyonce fans well remember, 2014 marked the year that her sister Solange Knowles attacked Jay in an elevator at an afterparty. Unconfirmed reports suggested at the time that the two in-laws were fighting over the “Holy Grail” rapper’s alleged romance with designer Rachel Roy.
Fast-forward to 2016 and unconfirmed rumors of his relationship with Roy are in full force after Beyoncé, 34, dropped controversial track “Sorry.” In the song, the superstar — who wore custom Givenchy on Monday — suggests that her unfaithful lover “call Becky with the good hair.”
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Roy hinted that she was Becky, captioning a snap “good hair don’t care.” Roy later denied that she’s Becky after getting bombarded online by Bey’s fans.
It’s unclear whether Jay Z will accompany Bey to any afterparties, but so far things seem fine between the parents to Blue Ivy. The couple have been busy traveling together on Bey’s Formation tour.
