Demi Lovato proved that a bob hairstyle can have endless possibilities — including voluminous, tousled strands — at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on May 22 in Las Vegas.
“Demi likes her bob to have a rock ‘n’ roll edge to it,” Clyde Haygood, the Nutrafol celebrity hairstylist behind her look, which paired with her edgy Chanel menswear ensemble perfectly, told Us Weekly exclusively.
To get her Billboard style pink carpet ready, Haygood applied a mousse at the former Disney star’s roots and blew out her bob with a medium-size ionic thermal brush to give hair fullness and support. As Lovato — who shared the stage with Nick Jonas and Tove Lo at the awards show — had her makeup done, the L.A.-based stylist set the front of her tresses with three medium-size Velcro rollers, teasing the roots for extra volume. For that rocker look, Haygood, who has also worked with Khloé Kardashian and Erika Girardi, picked random pieces and flatironed them outward. To finish, he applied a dry spray-on wax to add texture and separation, which helped to accent her straightened locks.
Haygood told Us Weekly that he has one suggestion for healthy tresses with tons of body — and it isn’t a spray or shampoo. “Demi has a great head of hair, but each individual strand is fine,” Haygood explains. “Nutrafol [a hair growth vitamin supplement] is a great way to achieve thick, strong hair like hers. Oh! And a great haircut, of course.”
