No labels, please! In a new cover story interview for Variety, Kristen Stewart opened up about how she refuses to define her sexuality.
“I had to have some answer about who I was,” the actress, 26, told the magazine. “I felt this weird responsibility, because I didn’t want to seem fearful. But nothing seemed appropriate. So I was like, ‘F–k, how do I define that?’ I’m not going to.”
The Twilight alum — who recently called it quits with French singer Stephanie “Soko” Sokolinski, as Us Weekly exclusively reported on May 5 — also told Variety, “There’s acceptance that’s become really rampant and cool. You don’t have to immediately know how to define yourself.”
Stewart went on to say that she can’t be bothered by those who are unable to wrap their heads around her fluid sexuality. “Me not defining it right now is the whole basis of what I’m about,” she continued. “If you don’t get it, I don’t have time for you.”
While she’d rather keep her dating life on the down-low, the Equals star said that she’s “not hiding s–t” and revealed why she didn’t dial down the PDA with Soko, 30, even if paparazzi were snapping pics.
“That’s really important to me,” she explained. “As much as I want to protect myself, it’s not about hiding. As soon as you start throwing up so many walls, you cannot see over them yourself, so you just start isolating in a way that’s not honest. I definitely found where I’m comfortable. I don’t take credit for that.”
Prior to her relationship with Soko, Stewart famously dated Twilight costar Robert Pattinson for five years. Following her infamous summer 2012 fling with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, they parted ways for good in 2013, and Pattinson, 29, is now engaged to British songstress FKA twigs.
Whether or not she’s dating a guy or a girl, K.Stew is still making her best effort to remain tight-lipped about her romantic life.
“When I was dating a guy, I would never talk about my relationships to anyone,” she added to Variety. “I feel the same way now.”
