Kristin Cavallari on Coping With Brother Michael’s Death: ‘I Have Good Days and Bad Days’

Kristin Cavallari opened up to Us Weekly exclusively about coping after her older brother Michael Cavallari passed away in December from hypothermia.

On December 10, Michael was found dead in the Salt Wash region of Grand County, Utah, where he succumbed to natural elements. The 30-year-old was exposed to the cold in what authorities described as a “steep and very rocky area” after crashing his car. His death was ruled accidental last month.

At the time, Kristin confirmed the heartbreaking news to Us Weekly in a statement. “We have just been informed by the authorities my brother’s body has been found,” she said. “This is a very painful time and we are still processing it all.”

Months later, the shoe designer is still grappling with the aftermath of losing her sibling. In late February, the Balancing in Heels author, 29, welcomed Us into her Nashville home, where she cooked her favorite quinoa dish. During her chat with Us, Kristin was candid about the situation.

“I’m OK,” the mom of three explained. “I mean, I have good days and bad days.” The devoted parent of Camden, 3, Jaxon, 22 months, and Saylor, 3 months, added: “I’ve just been looking to my kids especially for strength, and focusing on them.”

“I just feel like I’ve come a long way the past ten years and I am at a place where I can let people in,” Kristin told Us. “And you know, I feel like as corny as it sounds, I’ve kind of found my place of happiness so I just, I wanted to write a book to show women that you can in fact have it all. Obviously I’ve had to make some sacrifices since my family is my number one priority, but I think that once you figure out what your priorities are … everything else just kind of falls into place.”

Kristin, though, told Us that she still has a steep learning curve ahead. “I don’t want people to think that I have it all figured out, because I definitely don’t, and I am just doing the best that I can.”
