Reporters and cameramen entered the Redland, Calif., home of San Bernardino shooters Syed Rizwan Farook, and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, on Friday, Dec. 4, after the landlord granted entry, allowing them to tamper with what could be crucial evidence.
In the jaw-dropping footage captured by CNN and NBC News, reporters are seen rummaging through the suspects’ belongings, including IDs, passports, baby toys, personal photos, and even shredded documents.
CNN legal analyst Paul Callan expressed his anger during the network’s live broadcast on Friday, saying, “They’ve turned a crime scene in a terrorist mass murder into a garage sale!”
Law enforcement analyst Harry Houck added: “I am having chills down my spine. This apartment clearly is full of evidence. I don’t see any fingerprint dusts on the walls where they went in and checked for fingerprints for other people that might have been connected with these two. You’ve got documents laying all over the place; you’ve got shredded documents that need to be taken out of there to see what was shredded…Now you have thousands of fingerprints all over inside on this crime scene.”
As previously reported, the Dec. 2 shooting, which left 14 dead and dozens injured, is now being investigated as an “act of terrorism.” Farook, a U.S. citizen, and his wife Malik, here on a visa, were killed following a shootout with police.
