Robert F. and Ethel Kennedy’s granddaughter is expanding their famous family! Meaghan Kennedy Townsend and her fiancé, Billy Birdzell, are expecting twins. The pregnant yoga instructor posed for a picture with her dad, David Lee Townsend, on Monday, June 6, in Washington, D.C. “Soon to be Grandpa and the little peeps:),” she wrote alongside the Instagram photo, where she is seen cradling her adorable bump. “#pregnant #pregnancy #soontobemommy.”
The Harvard-educated former business analyst — whose mother is politician and attorney Kathleen Kennedy Townsend — got engaged to former Marine Birdzell in February, the New York Post reported. According to the paper, Townsend and Birdzell met when he took a yoga class she was teaching in Los Angeles. They later reconnected at her studio, Up Dog Yoga + Cycling, in West Hollywood.
Townsend opened her studio in 2010 after nearly losing her leg in a skiing accident. “Doctors can’t believe I am doing the things that I am doing,” she told West Hollywood Patch in 2011. “There’s something about connecting with your body that you can kind of overpower your mind.”
Kyra Sedgwick and Drew Barrymore are rumored fans of Townsend’s classes, according to Vogue.
Townsend is one of the late Robert F. Kennedy's many grandchildren. The former New York senator was assassinated at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles after winning the California presidential primary on June 6, 1968. He was only 42. He was the 54th U.S. attorney general, from 1961 to 1964, and served under his brother, President John F. Kennedy.
