The dressmakers at the fashion house’s legendary 30 Avenue Montaigne shop in Paris explained that Cotillard inspired the creation, as she wanted “a golden dress [with] a sliver of glittering details.” They then created a mood board with ideas that led to the “pure, pared-down simplicity” of the dress.

If you look closely, only a single seam is visible on the bust, making it appear as if the lamé fabric, accented by a ruffle of black velvet on the shoulder, was draped on her body. Underneath the molten cloth is a rigorously constructed organza foundation, which allows the fabric to hold the natural curves of her chest without the use of extra stitching or darts.

And then there was one last detail: To make sure that the light fabric moved with Cotillard, a thin copper chain was sewn into the hemline of the dress, giving it the slight weight it needed to move fluidly.
