The Emmy Awards 2013 got off to a late — and arguably kinda sluggish — start. What does the 65th Annual TV gala need more of? Twerking! Faux-heckling host Neil Patrick Harris from the front row during his chaotic opening sequence, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey made an obligatory — but funny! reference to Miley Cyrus' now-legendary MTV Video Music Awards twerk-a-thon several weeks ago.
As Harris sparred onstage with meddling former awards-show hosts Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Jane Lynch and Jimmy Kimmel, Poehler and BFF Fey — both of them wearing 3-D glasses and munching on gallon-sized buckets of popcorn — chimed in for how to improve the show: "We've got some advice for you."
"Take your pants off," Fey said.
"Twerk it! Work that twerk," Poehler barked.
"I thought an awards show involved twerking," Fey complained.
As the women urged Harris to take his pants off, he complained it would be "degrading."
"It would be degrading," Poehler said. "But we would be degrateful."
Why were they wearing 3-D glasses, Harris asked? "So we can see your business up close!" Fey teased. "America needs to see what you working with!"
