Justin Timberlake Releases “TKO,” Sings About a Bad Breakup

Now that Justin Timberlake‘s a married man, does that mean all of his songs about relationships are based on wife Jessica Biel? The 32-year-old singer released the new single, “TKO,” from his upcoming 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2 album on Thursday, Sept. 10. In the song, Timberlake sings about a bad breakup that “knocked him out.”

“It cuts right on my eye, yeah it hurt, won’t lie/ Still can’t see, think I saw you with another guy,” he croons. “Can’t fight, knocked down, then I got over you/ Can’t fight no more, you knock me out/ What am I supposed to do?”

“Baby, now I really know what we’re fighting for,” the song continues. “This rematch sex is amazing/ But nobody wins if somebody’s heart is slow.”

Timberlake and Biel, 31, began dating in 2007 and briefly split in March 2011. During that time, Biel was rumored to be dating her Playing for Keeps costar Gerard Butler. But the actress rekindled her romance with Timberlake just seven months after their breakup. They became engaged in December 2011 and married in October 2012 in Italy.

The first single off his 20/20 Experience: 2 of 2 album, “Mirrors,” was rumored to be about Biel. Timberlake explained in a post on his website, “‘Mirrors’ is a love song to someone that you feel like is, you know, sort of your other half. And it became a play on that. Not specifically about looking into a mirror.”

“I think a relationship, when it’s working, is constantly evolving because we as individuals evolve,” he said. “You want to know that the person you’re with is evolving with you. People change like seasons. We’re always growing, always evolving, and to know that the other half of a special part of your life is, like I said, mirroring you, but also being an individual in their own way. That’s the power of singing. That’s really what the song is about.”
