“Happy Birthday my beautiful @ninadobrev,” wrote Dobrev’s bestie Julianne Hough along with a slew of adjectives describing the birthday girl, 25. “You are kind, smart, adventurous, loving, honest, beautiful, mysterious, free, funny, and so on and so forth….. I am so lucky to call you my best friend! I love you so much… My sister!” (Unrelated to Hough, Dobrev actually dated the Safe Haven star’s older brother, dancing pro Derek Hough, for six weeks in fall 2013.)

“Happy birthday ya ol’ fart!!!” added the blonde-haired, blue-eyed actress, 25, along with a picture with her arms wrapped around the birthday girl, giving her a big smooch on the cheek. Dobrev, meanwhile, smiles in the adorable snapshot as she cradles her embellished birthday cake — the candles already blown out.

Vampire Diaries writer and executive producer, Kevin Williamson, meanwhile, tweeted a sweet picture of the smiling, surprised brunette actress holding the cake as costar Ian Somerhalder and Hough both embrace her from behind. “Happy Birthday @ninadobrev !!! The world loves you!” wrote the hunky actor, 35, via Twitter. “We all do;) Enjoy the moment, enjoy the day, enjoy the year!”

Vampire Diaries costars Somerhalder and Dobrev took home a People’s Choice Award Wednesday night for “Favorite Onscreen Chemistry” between their characters. “We started dating in real life,” Somerhalder said onstage. “And then we broke up in real life,” she added. “And yet our characters are still dating on the show,” he joked. The former real life couple split in May after three years of dating.

Like Dobrev, 2013 was also a rough year for Hough on the relationship front. The Rock of Ages star split from Ryan Seacrest back in March after more than two years of dating.
