Thank you for your job, Jay Leno! Before he takes over the show and sits behind the desk on Feb. 17, Jimmy Fallon appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show Monday, Feb. 3, and shared his well-wishes to outgoing host Leno during his final week on the late night show.
Fallon, 39, revealed that he’ll be bringing his “Thank You Notes” segment from Late Night to the Tonight Show. “Actually, I wrote some thank you notes tonight,” Fallon told Leno. “Ricky Minor, do you have any thank you writing music? Hey, what are you guys up to in two weeks?” the comedian jokingly added to Leno’s house band.
“Oh, they’ll be looking for work,” Leno quipped. “They’ll actually be washing cars in my garage.”
With his special music playing in the background, Fallon began writing funny notes to Leno. “Thank you, Jay Leno, for passing the torch to me,” he wrote. “Hopefully it doesn’t get intercepted by a Seahawk.”
“Thank you, Jay,” he continued, “for giving me such great advice for the Tonight Show like, ‘you don’t need a monologue,’ and ‘have you ever thought about getting bangs?'”
But Fallon ended his jokey sketch with a sincere thank you to the veteran host. “And finally, thank you, Jay Leno, for carrying on the proud tradition of the Tonight Show host with such humor and class and for being nothing but gracious and generous to me over the past years,” he said. “I will do my best to make you proud every single night. Thank you.”
“Well, I think you’ll do a great job,” Leno said while shaking Fallon’s hand. “I couldn’t be happier for you, buddy.”
