Jon Hamm wants to reassure his fans that he's not dying. The Mad Men actor is set to undergo throat surgery, but it's not as bad as some outlets have reported. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday, Sept. 25, a raspy — and bearded — Hamm clarified what's going on with his health.
"I've got a polyp on my vocal cord," Hamm, 42, said. "It sounds worse than it is, although it doesn't sound as bad as how the National Enquirer reported it, which was that I was coughing up blood and probably have cancer."
"That's good to put that out there. Thanks, guys. Thanks a lot," he joked. "Because, you know, I cough up blood . . . never!"
But Hamm reiterated a statement his rep gave to Us Weekly on Tuesday, telling Jimmy Kimmel, "It's a very routine procedure."
The actor, who plays handsome, damaged ad executive Don Draper on AMC's Mad Men, is set to begin filming the seventh and final season of the drama series on Nov. 4. "I've gotten sort of broad strokes as to how it will end," he said of the finale, which will be split into two parts and premiere in spring 2014. "[Creator Matthew Weiner] has a very specific idea as to what he wants to do."
"Why won't he tell you how it will end?" Kimmel asked.
"Because he likes it to be a secret. I'm actually okay with that," Hamm said. "We don't know how our lives will end. I apparently will die of cancer — according to the National Enquirer — soon."
