Cynthia Nixon Says Ruth Bader Ginsburg Is a Miranda, Talks Sex and the City Costars: Who Keeps in Touch?

Still such a Miranda! Cynthia Nixon stopped by Watch What Happens Live! on Thursday, April 30, and dished to host Andy Cohen about the years she spent starring in Sex and the City alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, and Kristin Davis.

“I keep in touch with all of the women,” the New Yorker, 49, said of her costars, going on to reference the actors who played Anthony Marantino and Mr. Big. “I keep in touch with Mario [Cantone]. I keep in touch with Chris Noth.”

The actress wrapped her TV run with Sex and the City on HBO in 2004, going on to reprise her role of the sarcastic lawyer in 2008’s Sex and the City movie and 2010’s Sex and the City 2.

The Emmy winner reflected on her character, as well as her SATC counterparts Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, and Charlotte York, sorting various celebrities into the different personas.

Cohen, who is a good friend of Parker’s, first brought up a photo of Queen Elizabeth, inspiring Nixon to say, “I think she’s a Charlotte.” She pinpointed Hillary Clinton as a Miranda, and exclaimed, “Oprah‘s a Carrie!”

Nixon did not hesitate when shown a shot of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, immediately naming the Supreme Court Justice as a Miranda. She went on to call Michele Bachmann a Charlotte, Michelle Obama a Carrie, Lena Dunham a Miranda, and Beyonce a Samantha. In one particularly hilarious moment, she said Gandhi would be Mr. Big.

Answering phone calls from viewers, Nixon recalled her favorite episode from the long-running show, naming the 2002 season 5 episode “I Love a Charade,” in which the ladies’ longtime friend, the ambiguously gay performer Bobby Fine, marries society heiress Bitsy von Muffling.

“There was one episode that was particularly delightful to film, that I always think of when I’m asked that question, which is, the wedding of whatever their characters were named — Julie Halston and Nathan Lane in the Hamptons,” Nixon explained. “It was like all of us together in this beautiful wedding setting in the country and Samantha and I dancing with the baby… Cassandra Wilson singing, I mean, it was just a gorgeous summer night. We were all there in a season finale. That was really fun.”

Another part of the show that was especially fun for Nixon, unsurprisingly, was the wardrobe. Asked whether she got to keep Miranda’s fancy threads, the actress revealed, “Oh yes, yes! Most of them!”

“Do you know why?” she added. “Because I am not a sample size! So they actually have to buy the clothes that I wore. Whereas, Sarah Jessica for example, she’s a sample size so they lend them all to her and then they take them back… She got to keep a lot of the clothes but not the samples! You can’t keep the samples… Yes, I still wear them, although they’re starting to look a little antiquated.”
