Andy Samberg‘s engagement to Joanna Newsom is proof that opposites attract. While the former Saturday Night Live cast member is beloved by fans for his outlandish music videos like “D–k in a Box” and “3-Way,” his fiancee is widely admired by serious music aficionados for her otherworldly, harp-featuring indie-folk songs.
In an interview with Glamour magazine in its September issue, the funnyman, 35, explained that while he and Newsom may work as a couple, their music? Not so much. “We’ve talked about [collaborating.] But we’ve decided ultimately that her fans would probably kill me in my sleep. What she does is so, like, actually beautiful and important,” he gushed.
The actor also talked about why he decided to leave the famously demanding sketch comedy show. “For the first time working there, I just hit a wall, emotionally and physically. I needed to start having a life again,” he explained.
Samberg is currently promoting his new sitcom, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, in which he stars as a callow detective. When asked by Glamour for the three things he would like to be made illegal, the actor quipped, “Talking on your cell phone while in a public bathroom stall. Stopping conversations to show people pictures of your dog. And farting on airplanes. That’s essentially taking someone’s nose hostage.”
Newsom, meanwhile, may be segueing to acting as the singer was spotted last week on the set of Paul Thomas Anderson‘s next film, Inherent Vice, which stars Joaquin Phoenix.
