Former first lady Barbara Bush has been hospitalized for early signs of pneumonia. Bush, 88, whose husband George H.W. Bush served as president from 1989 to 1993, was admitted to a Texas hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 31.
"Former first lady Barbara Bush was admitted to Methodist Hospital in Houston's Texas Medical Center yesterday for treatment on a respiratory related issue," family spokesman Jim McGrath said (via the New York Times). "She has already received visits from her husband and family, and is receiving fantastic care."
The former first lady and president — parents to the 43rd president, George W. Bush — have had their share of health scares in the past. In November 2008, Mrs. Bush underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer and had heart surgery in March 2009. The 41st president, 89, got treated for bronchitis in November 2012 and has a form of Parkinson's treatment.
According to the NYT, the couple seem to be doing well, and celebrated New Year's Eve in the hospital together by watching college football.
