The Russian pop duo t.A.T.u, two women who famously made out in their "All the Things She Said" video is set to open the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Ceremony despite Russia's anti-gay laws

t.A.T.u. is making a comeback — well, sort of. The Russian pop duo, which features singers Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova, are set to open the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics at its opening ceremony on Friday, Feb. 7, the Washington Post reports. The performance will be the first since the pair announced their split in March 2011.

The group — known for the 2003 hit "Not Gonna Get Us" — will be playing for their native land, but their set will not be broadcast internationally. Instead, the Russian Olympic team will walk into the stadium to "Not Gonna Get Us" while the singers perform at the warm-up show.

The choice of performers is bizarre to say the least. Russia has made headlines with its discriminatory anti-gay laws, while t.A.T.u. famously explored lesbian and gay themes. Katina, 29, and Volkova, 28, first broke out in 2003 with their debut single "All The Things She Said" playing lovers in its music video. (Kissing in the rain while wearing school uniforms, anyone?) The lyrics to the song also touched on homosexuality and bisexuality. (Cher turned down an offer to perform at the Olympics last September because of the country's homophobic laws.)

But nonetheless, t.A.T.u. has otherwise seen success. Their two hits have topped No. 1 in contemporary music charts and the women have sold over 15 million records.
