Girls just want to have fun!
Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts arrived at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Jan. 17 in Santa Monica together wearing sunglasses (yes, sunglasses) and giggling down the red carpet.
Both 2014 Oscar nominees for their roles in August: Osage County, neither Streep, 64 nor Roberts, 46, explained why they chose the shady accessories, but we’d like to imagine that the gal pals were recovering from a late-night slumber party.
The pair posed, laughed, and chatted on the red carpet outside Barker Hanger. Basically rubbing in our faces just how awesome it would be to be bests with these two Oscar-winning legends.
Streep, who earned her record-busting 18th Oscar nomination for the movie, reacted to the news on Jan. 16, “I am so happy for our film that Julia and I have been nominated. We are both so proud of August: Osage County. This honor from the Academy, for which we are truly grateful, will help bring attention to our film from audiences across the country, which is thrilling.”
Celebrating her fourth Academy Award nomination, Roberts said, “This was certainly a once in a lifetime experience and the recognition from it is an absolutely thrilling bonus. I simply could not be more excited right now.”
August: Osage County marks the first time Streep and Roberts shared the screen together, and the occasion was a dream come true for Roberts. “fI had many imaginary conversations with Meryl about working together,” she has said. “When a person goes from being on a pedestal in your mind, to even cooler, better, and more fabulous up close, you get to understand them a little more intimately.”
