Peter Mayhew is reportedly reprising his role of Chewbacca for the upcoming Star Wars film.

The force is strong with this casting! Star Wars alum Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca the Wookiee in the original trilogy, is reportedly set to reprise his role of the furry sidekick in Episode VII

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mayhew will once again play the Wookiee for JJ Abrams' upcoming sequel. The 69-year-old actor is one of the few confirmed cast members for the new installment. While the casting for the film has been kept secret, talk has been widespread with a variety of actors rumored for roles, including Oscar-winning Hollywood darling Lupita Nyong'o and Girls star Adam Driver.

Mayhew, who appeared in 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV, 1980's Star Wars: Episode V, and 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI, is likely not alone in his return to the series. Harrison Ford, who played Chewbacca's comrade, Han Solo, is expected to make an appearance in Episode VII, as are Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, who played Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, respectively.

While Mayhew has racked up other acting credits in the years since Star Wars, the franchise remains his greatest success. Standing at an impressive 7-foot-3, Mayhew will be one of the few who can fill out the iconic Chewbacca costume.
