Sochi Olympics Closing Ceremonies: Russians Mock Faulty Olympic Ring From Opener: See the Hilarious Pictures!

Mocking their mistakes! In the Closing Ceremonies for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, the Russians poked fun at their opening ceremonies blunder when it came time for the five Olympic rings to be formed by volunteers on the floor of the Fisht Olympic Stadium.

The first four rings were formed by the performers without a problem, but when the spotlight was on the fifth ring, it temporarily remained purposefully unopened as a comical nod to the opening ceremonies snafu in which the fifth Olympic ring failed to form.

The error became one of the most talked-about elements from the opening ceremonies and led to a series of Internet memes.

Eventually the crowd forming the fifth ring in the closing ceremonies spread out to complete the Olympics’ symbol, but the moment was appreciated by spectators in Sochi and across the Internet.

The pre-taped closing ceremonies will air on NBC at 8:30 p.m. ET on Feb. 23, 2014.
