Gwyneth Paltrow and 9-year-old daughter Apple dodged a car accident Monday when the Vespa the actress was driving almost collided with a school bus.
But the Oscar winner is still on rocky legal ground. While Paltrow is seen driving the vehicle in video of the incident, the California DMV informs omg! that Paltrow has not had a valid California driver's license since 2004. Spokesman Armando Botello says the department has no record of a license for Paltrow's husband of nearly a decade, Coldplay's Chris Martin, who is seen in the video zooming alongside his wife, with their son, Moses, 7, in tow as they picked up the kids from their L.A. school.
In addition to a regular driver's license, Botello says drivers are required to pass a separate exam in order to legally drive a motorized scooter.
The problem appears to be one of timing. Paltrow's brood has lived in London for the better part of a decade, but relocated to her hometown over the summer, reportedly to be close to her family. While the DMV requires that drivers obtain a license within 10 days of moving here, Paltrow was obviously not aware of that fact.
"She just moved back to California," her rep tells omg!. "She has 30 days to transfer her licenses, which are in the process of happening."
The rep told "Inside Edition," which was the first to report the driver's license story, that the "Iron Man 3" star had good reason for what appeared to be cutting off a school bus.
"Gwyneth was being followed by several very aggressive paparazzi," he said. "And they kept swerving in front and back of her and made her very nervous driving and resulted in her pulling in front of the bus when she thought the bus had stopped."
The rep insists that she'll soon be obtaining the needed paperwork to cruise the streets with her scooter, which is a good thing because "Inside Edition" reported that she was back out on the Vespa — this time with cameras mounted on the front and back of it — on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Until then, perhaps Paltrow should consider a car service…
