Huh? It's been three weeks since Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria Thomas Baldwin welcomed their first child together on Aug. 23, and yet a close family member has yet to meet baby Carmen Gabriela — his other daughter Ireland! The 50-year-old actor revealed during an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday, Sept. 12, that the two half-sisters have yet to meet.
"It's weird, you know?" he said of the age gap between his two daughters. "We're going to hand her this three-week-old baby and say, 'This is your sister.'" Up and coming model Ireland, 17, is the daughter of Baldwin and first wife Kim Basinger, who were married from 1993 to 2002.
One day after the birth of her half-sister, the aspiring model penned an open letter titled "Happy Birthday" to the new addition. "Dear Carmen, You have entered the world! Welcome! We have all been anticipating your arrival! By we, I mean a lot of people," she wrote via her official Tumblr account. "There are countless lessons that I want to teach you, but I have faith that you will learn a majority of them on your own journey and they will help you grow." The blonde beauty continued to share 10 life lessons with the newborn.
She added: "I love you, Carmen. You have been born into one crazy family. You are both lucky and cursed at the same time. We are going to have so much fun together. I can't wait to meet you soon."
As for the former 30 Rock actor —- who just landed a hosting gig for a new MSNBC current events show — he's quite aware of the age gap between the two. He joked to Letterman that his friends have already teased him that he will need a wheelchair by the time Carmen graduates from college.
