Thanks to Quvenzhane Wallis‘s puppy purse at the 2013 Oscars and Anna Gunn‘s Breaking Bad clutch at the 2014 SAG Awards, tiny-but-chic bags have cemented their place as the hottest accessory on the red carpet.

“While the dress steals most of the attention on the red carpet, let’s not forget the bag can make or break her leading look,” fashion blogger Tina Craig (aka Bag Snob) tells Us Weekly.

With the Oscars 2014 rapidly approaching, Us asked Craig to predict what Lupita Nyong’o, Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett, and more of the nominees will be carrying on Sunday, March 2.

“The most striking actress currently striding on the red carpet should wear a strong piece that can contend with her glowing personality,” Craig tells Us of her pick for Nyong’o. “Unafraid of color, Nancy Gonzalez’s turquoise crocodile clutch box packs a punch in lagoon-blue turquoise. Topped with a perky fuchsia lip, this would be a stroke of tropical genius.”

“I’d prefer to see Jennifer in up-and-coming designer Reece Hudson’s Louche minaudiere, which is as stirringly edgy as it is timeless. Topped with an exaggerated tassel detail, this pearl is out of this world,” Craig says.

“Always the risk-taker, count on Cate the Great to cause a stir — without begging for attention. She usually keeps it timeless and classy, but Brian Atwood’s Stacy clutch will add an edgy sexiness to her cool blonde looks,” Craig explains.

Amy Adams deserves a bag that’s daring, just like her. Her incredibly sexy (and unapologetically low-cut!) turn as sassy Sydney unveils a new side of her, and so does this electrifying Chanel box clutch,” Craig tells Us. “I could not have designed a better bag for the cheeky redhead.”

Sally Hawkins

Sally Hawkins is brilliant as Jasmine’s quirky sister with a penchant for bad boys. While her character’s style is original at best, let’s keep the sense of fun but add some serious old-school glam to the mix,’ Craig says. “This whimsical clutch from Edie Parker has the feel of an old-fashioned fan combined with the vivid flavor of Fruit Stripes gum, for a delightfully unexpected effect.”

Sandra Bullock

“A nomination for one of Sandra Bullock‘s weightiest roles to date calls for a clutch with supreme confidence,” Craig explains. “An impeccably simple gold brass box brings an element of understated glamour to America’s favorite girl next door and lets he natural aura shine.”
