Johnny Depp Says He Has “Less Rage” Now, Plays Weird Game of True or False With Ellen DeGeneres

Older, wiser, and…calmer? Newly engaged Johnny Depp stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show for an episode airing Friday, April 11, and chatted with the host about a recent milestone in his life — his 50th birthday.

“I think when you’re younger, 50 sounds old, and…you have this image of yourself,” DeGeneres told the Transcendence star. “But don’t you think you’re just getting better and better?”

“Well, calmer. You know, more calm,” Depp replied. “Less…well, not less weirdness, but less rage, maybe.” He noted, too, that there’s “less drama” in his life now. “Far less drama,” he stressed.

“It feels good,” he continued. “You definitely feel you’ve earned your stripes and you’re a little bit wiser, having been predominantly ignorant for the majority of your life.”

The star, who’s engaged to his 27-year-old Rum Diary costar Amber Heard, also spoke a little about his two kids, Jack, 12, and Lily-Rose, 14, with ex-girlfriend Vanessa Paradis. Asked if he’s a strict father, Depp said, “For the right things, sure.”

“I think it’s important to allow your kids to make their own decisions and experience the sort of repercussions of what might happen,” he explained. “I wouldn’t say I was a very strict, strict dad.”

DeGeneres then roped the actor into a weird game of True or False, during which they talked about Barbies, clowns, whether he sleeps in the nude, and his secret penchant for painting elephants. (Yes, you read that right.) Watch them play above!
