Angelina Jolie’s New Maleficent Trailer Features Haunting Lana Del Rey Cover of “Once Upon a Dream”

Evil never looked — or sounded — so good. Disney’s latest extended Maleficent trailer, which premiered during the 2014 Grammy Awards on Jan. 26, is a gorgeously sinister spectacle featuring Angelina Jolie as the titular wicked, vengeful witch from Sleeping Beauty.

Set to Lana Del Rey‘s haunting cover of the 1959 Sleeping Beauty theme song “Once Upon a Dream” (originally sung by Mary Costa), the one-and-a-half-minute teaser intersperses clips of battle scenes with shots of Jolie’s exquisitely villainous sorceress stalking through fields and glaring darkly at the camera.

The trailer also shows new footage of Elle Fanning as Aurora, her angelic blonde hair and rosy cheeks in stark contrast with Jolie’s black-horned headpiece and blood-red lips. “There is evil in this world, hatred, and revenge,” the Salt star warns Fanning with a menacing laugh.

Maleficent — due out this May — tells the classic Sleeping Beauty tale from the perspective of the villainess and explains what drove her to curse Princess Aurora. “You know the tale…Now find out the truth,” the video teases viewers.

“It’s a really great script,” Brad Pitt‘s fiancee told Entertainment Weekly of the film back in 2012. “I’m having a lot of fun. I’ve already got my horns fitted. My kids are very happy.”
