It's been a tough week for Alec Baldwin, but it looks like he has at least one die hard supporter on his side. His daughter Ireland, 18, took to Twitter on Nov. 16 to defend her father in a series of supportive tweets.
"It takes a lot of strength for someone to release their anger," the model tweeted. "It takes a lot of strength and SUPPORT for someone to grow and become a better person. We all say things we don't mean. We all say things we can't take back."
Before this latest setback, actress Genevieve Sabourin was found guilty of stalking the actor and sentenced to six months in jail.
She went on to say her father has improved over the years, and that she doesn't believe his comments were meant to offend.
"For someone who has battled with anger management issues, my dad has grown tremendously," she continued. "My dad is far from a homophobe or a racist."
In 2007 a voicemail from Baldwin to his daughter, in which he called her a "rude, thoughtless, little pig," famously was released to the public. The model has since forgiven the former 30 Rock star. Ultimately Ireland says she doesn't support what her father said, but she does support his sentiment.
"My point being, what my dad said was WRONG. What my dad felt WASN'T," she said. "My dad has an INFANT CHILD to protect. All the parents out there should understand. You would do anything to protect your baby."
Finally she begged fans to stop bashing her father, saying, "Now, let's all quit acting like children. Let my dad be and let him have his room to learn and enjoy his family."
Baldwin has made his own official apology for the comments and is currently suspended from his show Up Late With Alec Baldwin.
"I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have – and for that I am deeply sorry," Baldwin said in the statement. "Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand 'Up Late' will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week."
