Bachelor Episode 4 Recap: Juan Pablo Bans Kissing for a Night, Clare Clashes With Nikki

Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki
On episode four of season 18 of The Bachelor, Juan Pablo worries he's kissing too many ladies, and Clare and Nikki argue over drama in the house

As Juan Pablo would say, "Ay ay ay." Four weeks into season 18 of The Bachelor, things are getting real — real catty, that is. The remaining 13 ladies certainly know how to turn on the charm for their dates with Juan Pablo, but there are definitely a few feuds brewing behind closed doors, so to speak. The episode opens with Juan Pablo saying a bittersweet goodbye to his daughter Camila, because — as host Chris Harrison informs the ladies — the next leg of their "aventura" is taking place in Seoul, South Korea. After a lot of screaming (and some frantic packing), the women arrive at their destination, where Juan Pablo is already wandering the streets.

"Seoul! We're here, baby! First international trip. I'm liking this," he says. "Seoul is a beautiful city, very modern, and there is a lot of history here. I'm in a place that I've never been before…I cannot wait for the girls to join me. This week is going to be great. I'm here to fall in love and to find love. I'm here to find my wife."

On that note, it's time for the first date card! Much to the ladies' dismay, it's a group date — for Chelsie, Cassandra, Elise, Danielle, Kat, and Nikki, who doesn't even try to hide her displeasure. "This blows," she complains. "I'm halfway around the world, and I'm going to be spending the day tomorrow with five other girls who are quite annoying…The date card says 'Pop,' and my head's gonna explode."

"Pop," it turns out, means K-Pop. The date involves a trip to K-Pop studio YG Entertainment, where the ladies learn to dance with 2NE1, one of the biggest K-Pop bands in the world. Kat is psyched — she's been dancing her whole life — but self-proclaimed "terrible" dancer Nikki is significantly less thrilled. "This is the worst possible date I could ever be on in my life," she says. She's even more irritated when Kat starts showing off. "If there was a sign that said, 'I am the best at this,' I'm sure she would put in on her forehead," Nikki pouts. "I'm just, like, so annoyed."

Her annoyance turns to dread when 2NE1 tells the ladies they're going to be backup dancers at a concert that night. "I'm hoping I can muster all my confidence and just pull it off," Nikki admits. She does — barely — but she's clearly not having fun. Kat, on the other hand, looks like she's auditioning to be a permanent member of 2NE1.

Later, at the cocktail party, Nikki stirs up some drama by trash-talking Kat behind her back. "You can't get what you want by being fake…it doesn't work that way," she says, at the exact moment Kat is opening up to Juan Pablo about her alcoholic father. "And Kat is, like, so on all the time, and so over the top. There's no way that's real."

The other ladies, to their credit, refrain from jumping in with their own Kat disses, but they have no problem sharing what they think of Nikki. "Nikki is a negative person," Danielle says in a confessional. "In this setting, it's easy to become catty and kind of talk behind each other's backs. And Nikki has done that. And I don't feel like that's necessarily a good role model for Camila."

Juan Pablo apparently thinks otherwise — because he gives Nikki the date rose. The group's reaction? "Ugh. Yuck," Elise says.

The next day, Juan Pablo gets ready for his Juan-on-one date with Sharleen. "She's my favorite one right now," he says of the opera singer. The feeling, unfortunately, does not appear to be mutual. Sharleen is skeptical about their connection, telling Team Bachelor she doesn't know "if he's the one for [her]." After a day of exploring Seoul and eating weird foods with him, however, she changes her tune — a little. "He's really surpassed my expectations in a lot of ways. He's very open-minded. He is curious about the world, about other people, about other lifestyles. He's more fun than I expected," she admits.

That night, she gives Juan Pablo a private performance of some operatic runs, followed by a sexy pre-dinner makeout session. Things are going swimmingly — until the single dad asks her how many kids she wants. "I'm really conflicted. I'm sure that a lot of girls here are like, 'I wanted three kids yesterday,'" she says in a confessional. "That's not me." She then admits to Juan Pablo that kids are not something she ever thought about, and that she once dated a man who had a daughter and "was not ready for that." It sounds like a deal-breaker — Juan Pablo wants at least two more kids, after all — but he says he "appreciates her honesty" and gives her the rose anyway.

On to the group date! The remaining ladies — Andi, Alli, Kelly, Clare, Lauren, and Renee — join Juan Pablo for a crazy day in Seoul, involving karaoke, fish pedicures, paddle boat races, and street food. At one point, Clare tells Juan Pablo she doesn't want to eat octopus, which of course means that's what they're doing next. The rest of the girls are are game, but Clare makes a big fuss about being too freaked out to try it. "Clare is the most dramatic person I've ever seen. Her piece was literally this big," Kelly says. "And I know you've swallowed bigger things than that."

"I mean, it's hard to watch Clare monopolize his time," Andi adds. "She has no qualms about overtaking the date. And knowing that the nighttime is coming up, I am dreading what else she's about to do."

Clare is definitely acting a little territorial over Juan Pablo, but she has to wait her turn for some Juan-on-one time, since he pulls Renee aside first. Renee is eager for her first kiss with the Bachelor, but she makes the mistake of asking him how Camila would feel about them sharing a little smooch — which gets him thinking. "I've kissed six girls already, and I don't want my daughter seeing her dad kissing 20 girls, so I'm going to take a step back and I'm going to try to not kiss anybody tonight," he says.

That's bad news for the rest of the ladies, but especially for Lauren, who puts the moves on Juan Pablo during their alone time and is unceremoniously rebuffed. "He said, 'You know, I have a daughter, and I want to be respectful.' And I totally understand that," she says, tearing up. "But I know he's kissed other girls in the house. So that makes me feel like he's not interested."

He's definitely interested in Clare, though. Despite his moratorium on kissing — and her confession that she threw up in her mouth and then swallowed it back down after eating the octopus that afternoon — he can't help but lean in for a little smooch. "I'm helpless. I don't even know what to do," he says. "I wasn't gonna kiss her, but I couldn't help it. It just feels right." Surprisingly, though, Clare doesn't get the rose — Andi does.

The next night, at the cocktail party, Andi and Sharleen agree to take a backseat to the other ladies, since they already have roses this week. Nikki, however, is not so accommodating and interrupts Clare's Juan-on-one time to steal some for herself. "I was feeling happy, I was feeling excited…and Nikki just buzzkilled it for me," Clare says after walking away. "Just because I'm kind doesn't mean I let people walk all over me. Don't mistake my kindness for weakness."

Things are definitely tense between them — and they get even more so when Juan Pablo makes a passing comment about drama in the house. Nikki is convinced Clare said something to him, and though Clare denies it, she does cop to having some issues with Nikki. "You're one way with the girls, and one way with him," she says. "And I don't think Juan Pablo sees that side of you. It can just rub people the wrong way. If you were to be how you are in the house around him, I don't see that warranting a rose."

Speaking of roses, it's time for the rose ceremony! Renee, Chelsie, Kelly, Danielle, Cassandra, Alli, Clare, and Kat get roses, which means Lauren and Elise have to make the 12-hour trip back to the States.
