If bedtime stories were a sport, Josh Dallas would be an all-star. The Once Upon a Time actor, 32, has been getting lots of practice in advance of the birth of his first child with wife Ginnifer Goodwin, he told Us Weekly at an event for Milk & Bookies, a nonprofit organization that fosters literacy and spreads the love of reading to kids who can't afford books of their own.
"I'm very excited. I've already started reading books. I've read, like 20 to 30 books already to the bump, to the baby bump," the dad-to-be told Us of how he and Goodwin, 35, are preparing for parenthood.
Dallas got to test out his storytelling skills for real at the Milk & Bookies event, where he read The Snatchabook, by Helen and Thomas Docherty, to a bunch of children. "I read a whole stack of books to the baby bump, and that was the one that got the kick," he told Us of how he chose a story for the day.
The star, who plays Prince Charming to Goodwin's Snow White on ABC's fairy-tale drama, also spoke with Us about his wife's pregnancy cravings. Asked whether he's been running out in the middle of the night to pick up food, he replied, "I was, I was."
That said, Goodwin hasn't had too many strange requests. "Jalapenos in the very beginning—that was the only weird thing," Dallas said. "Straight up."
This will be the first child for the couple, who married in an intimate ceremony on April 12, days after wrapping production on Once Upon a Time. So what is Dallas looking forward to most about fatherhood? "Just meeting the kid. Meeting the kid and starting that life with it," he raved. "I can't wait!"
