John Henson, the son of the late Muppets creator Jim Henson, died at age 48 of a sudden heart attack on Feb. 14.

It's a sad day for Muppets fans. John Henson, the son of the late Muppets creator Jim Henson died of a sudden heart attack on Feb. 14.

A rep for The Jim Henson company confirmed this news on its official Facebook page on Saturday, Feb. 15.

"It is with great sadness that we confirm that John Henson, son of Jim and Jane Henson and brother to Lisa, Cheryl, Brian and Heather, died at age 48 of a sudden massive heart attack on Friday, February 14, while at home with his daughter," the rep said in a statement. "John served as a shareholder and board member of The Jim Henson Company. He leaves two daughters, Katrina (15) and Sydney (10) and his wife Gyongyi. A private service is being planned."

John's famous father passed away in May 1990 at age 53 from an abscesses in his lungs. John was a puppeteer for the Muppets and performed as Sweetums the ogre in a variety of films including The Muppets' Wizard of Oz and Muppet Treasure Island
