Matt Lauer Is Avoiding Donald Trump’s Bad Side at All Costs: Watch!

Matt Lauer stopped by Late Night With Seth Meyers on Monday, July 27, and explained why he has no intention of getting on Donald Trump‘s bad side.

Appearing alongside his co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, the 57-year-old Today show star talked about his recent phone interview with Trump, 69, who was less than pleased with Today‘s coverage of his headline-making comments about Sen. John McCain.

“I think he was upset with the media in general, but he tended to make it a little personal,” Lauer said of the presidential hopeful. “Look, Donald Trump is getting all the attention right now on the Republican side because this is his resume. This guy is great, he’s a showman!”

“He’s got a lot of P. T. Barnum in him and he knows how to promote things,” Lauer continued of Trump. “He’s done it on television with his businesses for years, and so at the moment, it’s hard for the other candidates to get any attention whatsoever because Donald, I think some would say, is sucking the oxygen out of the room.”

Trump is dominating the conversation in a big way, edging out competitors like Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, and Scott Walker in the headlines.

“He’s really shaking things up. He’s forcing them into places where they’re not comfortable,” Lauer said of the direction Trump is sending the GOP candidates. “I have nothing bad to say about Donald Trump — especially if he watches this show! I don’t need that aggravation, I really don’t, no.”
