Blake Lively Returning to Acting After Gossip Girl, Wedding, Replaces Katherine Heigl In Film

Blake Lively is back!

The Gossip Girl lead, 26, who took a hiatus from acting after the series' finale to spend time with husband Ryan Reynolds and focus on a pending lifestyle venture, is finally returning to acting — and on the big screen, too!

The newlywed was announced as the new lead of romantic drama The Age of Adaline alongside Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, Lionsgate/Lakeshore announced Wednesday. In the film, according to Deadline, Lively plays an "ageless beauty," born at the turn of the 20th century, stops aging after a near-death accident. She then commences a worldwide journey that continues on through the century, keeping her secret safe, until she meets a man for whom she realizes her immortality is worth losing. 

Lively's last major movie role was in the 2012 film, Savages. She's also noted for her gritty role as a drugged-out single mom in the 2010 flick, The Town, starring opposite Ben Affleck.

Lee Toland Krieger, the man behind Celeste And Jesse Forever starring Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones, will direct the film. 

Deadline says the project, which took some time to come together, dropped Katherine Heigl, though reasons why remain unknown. The Age of Adaline begins filming in March. Meanwhile, Lively is keeping her husband company in New Orleans as he films Selfless.
