Linda Perry Talks 4 Non Blondes Reunion, Milla Jovovich, Evan Rachel Wood Performances

4 Non Blondes have more fun! More than 20 years after ’90s rock group 4 Non Blondes hit the charts with the 1993 song “What’s Up?” Linda Perry, Christa Hillhouse, Roger Rocha, and Dawn Richardson are planning a one-night-only reunion at Perry’s May 10 “An Evening With Women” event—and joining them at the show are Evan Rachel Wood and Milla Jovovich.

Both Wood, 26, and Jovovich, 38, will take the stage (separately) at the annual fundraiser, which benefits the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. Wood herself confirmed the news in a Twitter chat on Sunday, April 27, during which time she also confessed to a crush on the Resident Evil actress.

Us Weekly caught up with 4 Non Blondes’ Perry—a mega-successful songwriter who’s penned hits for Christina Aguilera, Pink, and Gwen Stefani, among others—to find out how Wood and Jovovich got involved, and what fans can expect from the 4NB reunion.

“Every year I try to do something different,” newlywed Perry told Us. (She wed Sara Gilbert in March.) “I try to have something that’s a little nostalgic, and then I hit it with something a little twisted, more modern, more hip.”

4NB’s reunion takes care of the nostalgia factor, of course, but Perry wanted something unexpected for the twisted/modern/hip part—which is where Wood came in. “She did that Art of Elysium [Heaven Gala] with me, and she was beyond amazing,” the “Beautiful” songwriter said of the Charlie Countryman actress, who showed off her vocal chops in the 2007 Beatles-themed movie musical Across the Universe. “She got a standing ovation—she did this song and it was incredible.”

Once Wood was on board, there was just one piece of the puzzle left. “I’m like, ‘Now I need somebody classy, somebody that’s all of it—you know, nostalgic, classy, hip. And, you know, it would be really great if she was, like, hot,'” Perry joked with Us. Her friend suggested Jovovich, who released an album, The Divine Comedy, in 1994, and had a minor but memorable hit in the track “Gentleman Who Fell.” (Before transitioning to film, Jovovich was a teen supermodel; she also signed a record contract in 1988.)

“It was a great record,” Perry raved to Us. “She’s so artsy and poetic and dark and sexy, and very musical. So there’s my nostalgic, my classy, and my hip!”

As for the much-anticipated 4NB reunion? “I’m really excited, I’m nervous, I’m all of it,” Perry confessed. “I’m like, ‘What are you doing? Are you nuts?’ I’m nervous because we haven’t played together in, like, 20 years or something to that effect…I think it’s going to be sweet. It’ll be sweet to hang out with them, get to know each other again, talk about what we all have been doing.”
