Daniel Radcliffe talks about the exciting world of theater and life on Broadway in The Cripple Inishmaan in DuJour Magazine's April issue.

There’s something truly magical (pun totally intended) about Daniel Radcliffe‘s career. The former child star skyrocketed to fame when he landed the coveted role of Harry Potter in one of the most successful film franchises of all time. Since then, he has gone on to star on the stage in the West End and on Broadway.

His latest attempt on The Great White Way is the dark comedy The Cripple of Inishmaan, in which he plays Irish underdog Billy. The 24-year-old opened up in the April issue of DuJour Magazine about his life in the spotlight and his transition to the stage.

“Broadway is an amazing environment to work in as an actor,” he told the magazine. “People talk about it all the time, but it’s a new experience every time, and the community aspect of it is brilliant and amazing and unexpected to me. I love to hang out after shows. I don’t remember something ever going so wrong on the stage that it ruins a show. Even if you do screw up, that’s one of the exhilarating things about being on stage—people jump in and help out, and you always get through it.”

Though he’s now comfortable on the stage, the British star’s first love will always be film.

“It was what I grew up in,” he explained. “I feel like if I had to do one thing forever, that would be it.”

For now, his focus is on embodying the complex Billy. After a successful stint in London, Radcliffe thinks New York will be a breeze.

“The play is very breathtakingly cruel at times, and it got a wonderfully vocal reaction from London audiences,” he said. “And you know London audiences are a bit more reserved than New York audiences, so I do remember thinking at the time that if this is the reaction we’re getting in London, I will really enjoy doing the show in New York.”
